That hybrid/remote life is increasingly in demand these days. With the schedule flexibility, the quiet of home, and the time savings from staying off the road… It’s tough to compete. But there is one little hiccup: creating that perfect office space where you can eliminate distractions and zero in on that to-do list. We’re not designers or Feng Shui experts, but we have devised a few creative ways to squeeze out every possible ounce of concentrated success from your home office.
If you don’t have a dedicated office, the best spot is at a desk or table where you have enough room for computers, monitors, and other necessary equipment. It doesn’t have to be large, just comfortable.
Choose a spot with good lighting or a window where your equipment won’t be disturbed and is an obviously distinct space from other home activities. If no such spot exists and space is limited, consider wall dividers like these or hanging curtains from the ceiling like this to create a distinct area.
The biggest investment for your home office will likely be a comfortable chair you can comfortably sit on all day or a standing desk that allows you to adjust as needed. We recommend you test these out in person before buying online.
If we’re honest, this is the fun bit. Paper trays, drawer organizers, wall-mounted boards, desktop cubbies, printer tables, filing cabinets, supply carts—just to name a few. Before you buy the whole Container Store, start with these few essentials and add in new items after you’ve acclimated to the space and have a clear picture of what you really need.
The most challenging component of working at home is constantly being face-to-face with the pile of things you have to get done around the house, but they’re all things you can’t do anything about until your day is done. Here are our tips for keeping your head in the game.
